Plus, how to handle the U.S. flag, the meaning of roses, best days to fish, and more!
| Thank you, Gino Marino in New Jersey, for this week’s photo! | With Memorial Day 2020 in the rearview mirror, it’s time to turn our thoughts to summer. Even as things begin to open back up, chances are good that this coming season will look and feel a bit different than what it’s been in the past. Already-restless kids will continue to be mostly at home, family vacations will become more localized, and the large gatherings and events that symbolize summer may not be possible. Despite all of this, summer is starting to signal its glorious arrival with warmer days, gardens exploding with floral color and delicious edibles, and longer days designed to bask in the wonder of the natural world. There are so many new adventures to be had, experiences to be savored, and memories to be made. Look forward to what’s to come and embrace the possibilities! June arrives tomorrow and brings with it lots to anticipate and celebrate, including the first day of summer (June 20) and Father’s Day (June 21). Before both of those, on June 14, is Flag Day, which commemorates the official adoption of the “stars and stripes” U.S. flag. If you’ve ever had questions about how and when to display the U.S. flag, we have the answers! If you’re celebrating a birthday this month, discover the meaning behind June’s birth flowers: the rose and honeysuckle. Speaking of roses, learn how to plant, grow, and prune these delicate beauties. Finally, looking for kid-friendly activities? Baking is always a great time and it gets even better with our 10 Best Cookie Recipes. If the outdoors is more your style, consider going fishing! It’s a cheap and easy activity (you can often rent equipment as needed) that’s usually no more than a day trip away. Plan your outing around the Best Days to Fish and discover the must have items for your tackle box. As sure as the Sun will rise and set each day, The Old Farmer’s Almanac is here for you, now and always. Your Friends from The Old Farmer’s Almanac |
